description of proposed partnership

by all institutions participating in the Partnership and must be

5.1 summary
Summary of the planned Partnership. This description may be used
by the European Commission and/or the National Agency when
providing information on selected projects, so please be clear
and precise and do not exceed 200 words.
5.2 context and motivation
a) What is the general context of each institution
involved in the proposed Partnership? Is there a specific
context as for example: Are the participants in disadvantaged
areas? Do they have specific needs for pupils, staff or other
groups, e.g. pupils at risk of social exclusion, pupils with
special needs, migrants, and refugees? If so, please explain.
b) Why do the participating institutions want to take part in
European cooperation activities such as this Partnership? What
do they expect to gain from European cooperation?

Peiramatiko
Gymnasio Thileon Pirea
(the coordinating school is one of the oldest schools in the
country, founded in 1857. It is a Pilot school only for
girls and it is unique in the country, as from 1980 on all
schools are mixed with boys and girls. It holds a strong
tradition in high-standard education, taking part in
educational projects on environment, culture etc. More than
5 different projects run every year in our school
(environmental education, gender issues, health education,
physical education and dietary habits, carriers’ education,
cultural projects, etc). In this respect, all the students
have the opportunity to participate in at least one project
and to benefit from it. New didactic and pedagogical
approaches are practiced and tested here by University
Professors and University students. A good proportion of the
teaching staff is highly qualified and experienced, ensuring
high standards of education, albeit the building itself is
disappointing. The objectives of participating in the
project are on the one hand the continuation of our school’s
tradition, the recognition of other countries’ cultural
diversity, the appreciation of the European cultural
diversity, and the establishment of communication via
Internet and in person with students from other European
countries, in pursue of the European citizenship.
Zespół Kształcenia Podstawowego i Gimnazjalnego nr 6 w
Gdańsku, (Poland)
is located in a fairly new district of Gdansk. The
population of the local community is growing fast and is
rather loosely integrated. The school provides education to
children from its own district as well as to those from
other parts of the city, in particular from the older and
economically not so well to do ones. The students come from
families with varied financial status. The school is adapted
to carrying out the activities for students with special
educational needs. It runs integration classes on all levels
of primary school and lower grammar school. Currently there
are mentally and physically handicapped students attending
classes in the school. In our school there is an
organization associating handicapped people called “The
Community of the Hearts”, which is in constant cooperation
with us. We have got a lot of talented students who are
awarded in many different fields. Implementing and
introducing the didactic and teaching programs lies in the
hands of highly qualified teachers. Among our staff there
are some foreign teachers
SCOALA NR.37 “ M. EMINESCU”
is a primary school in the town
Craiova.
Being situated on the Eastern platform of the city Craiova,
where many factories have been closed, the school is
operating in a disadvantaged area. As a result, most of the
pupils` parents are nowadays unemployed, so they have
financial problems. There are also many parents who left
Romania in order to find work abroad, so, many pupils are
living alone or withy their relatives, without the guidance
of their parents, having thus many problems integrating in
the school life.
We have a about 20 pupils with special needs and also 24
gipsy pupils.
Participating in this project will strengthen the role of
education and training at both European and national level,
improve access to learning opportunities and reinforce the
student’s motivation towards knowledge of European cultural
diversity.
It will also provide equal chances of participating in extra
school activities, regardless of sex, religion or racial
aspects involving pupils, teachers and parents in activities
related to the project. The project will be not only a great
opportunity of sharing experience, best practice examples
and widening the educational process with new teaching
methods but also a chance to stimulate communication on
topics of interest using foreign languages and develop
critical thinking by comparing different cultures.
“Ivan Vazov” (Bulgaria)
is a general primary and secondary school, situated in the
town of Sopot, Plovdiv region. There are 628 pupils and 51
teachers at school. Since Bulgaria became a member of the
E.U. a lot of attention has been paid to the economical
advantages and obligations and less to the cultural benefits
of our membership. This might lead to a misunderstanding
among the pupils regarding the matter of the EU. Most of our
pupils’ origin from working class low-income families. We
have some Roma and Turkish minorities as well. The social
and cultural situation in the region compels our school to
assume the role of providing an education for the real
matter of the EU and in particular the cultural diversity
and ethnic tolerance in Europe. Our participation in the
Comenius school partnership project “United in Cultural
Diversity” would place our pupils inside the real European
cultural whirlpool, giving them the chance to experience the
differences, the similarities and the amalgamation of the EU.
TEKEL ILKOGRETIM OKULU
(Turkey) is a primary school. We are confronted with general
problems like any school in Turkey, and a growing number of
pupils We are situated in an area, in the sense that we have
some immigrants. On the other hand, we experience a growing
concern for pupils who are excluded, and we devote a lot of
time and effort to counter this tendency.
b) Taking part in international cooperation projects will be
exciting and productive for our institution. We’ll be able
to widen our horizon,
establish new contacts across the borders, and come to see
how much we might learn from our neighbours and friends in
other countries. In a teaching perspective, our
international orientation can be an excellent means for
enhancing tolerance and mutual respect. In the future, the
process of breaking down barriers and boundaries must
continue. We would like our pupils to experience, also in
practise and real life, sharing the same hopes and ideals as
other youngsters across the continent. Teachers who
participate in international programmes can increase to the
extent that the basis for such involvement is now both broad
and democratic.
In the future we would like to consolidate this orientation.
We realize that our pupils will need to learn languages, and
that they are dependent upon us in creating a solid basis
for work and education in a “shrinking” world. We see
clearly that artistic activities (music, drama, dance, song)
are fine channels for the development of international
relations – and for personal growth.
All participating schools aim at:

To improve multilateral cooperation between schools to
enhance the understanding of the European dimension in
education.

To enhance and improve the use of foreign languages in all
levels and subjects.

For teachers to learn about other pedagogical methods and
teaching materials.

To enhance the use of IT in communication and search for
information.

To learn about the integration of students with special
educational needs in other European countries.

To reinforce the intercultural dialogue.

Objectives of the project

-To reinforce a concept of European citizenship in order to
accept and value cultural differences. Getting in personal
contact with people of other cultures can help recognise other
countries’ cultural identities.
- To implement the European dimension amongst all the
participants and other interested parties by getting in
personal contact with other Europeans
- To strengthen links between the new EU member countries and
older EU members by personal contact and working on common
objectives. This is to encourage tolerance and democratic
values in order to build up better relationships
-To encourage our students´ notion and feeling of active EU

students know facts about other cultures and get in contact
with people from there, they can understand and accept

Methodological approach
We are using the “Project method approach” that
implies:
*the formation of a student group
*the selection of the topic by the group of students using a
brainstorming session
*the planning of a series of activities with the active
participation of students
*the implementation of the activities
*he communication of findings, products, ideas and reports to
each other and to the members of the Comenius project,
*the continuous feed-back from the reports and inputs,
*the production of final products in various forms (e.g.
reports, films, photos, messages, etc)
* the evaluation of the overall project
and the cooperation itself.
5.4 partnership
and distribution of tasks
Please explain the distribution of tasks between participating
institutions and the competences required from each of them.
Also explain how you will ensure the active involvement of all
partners in common partnership activities.
Partner schools will have equal ownership of the project, with
the coordinator ensuring total involvement. The partners will
elaborate a plan for all institutions with their detailed role
and tasks in the first working meeting. The general working
plan includes the following:
Each partner will form a group of pupils/ students of about 10
to 20 persons or more.
Each partner will focus on a special area of own country’s
culture (e.g. folklore dances, music, painting, cooking, etc).
The group will work on the particular topic for two months and
then the different school groups will exchange messages
focusing on one topic each time. The objective is that all
partners will work on all topics, exchanging data in the form
of text, pictures, video, and songs, maritime traditions of
the participating countries (where applicable).
For example one partner has chosen the topic folklore dances.
They will send videos with some of the widely known folklore
dances of the country to the partners. The partners will
commend on it looking for similarities and differences and
communicating the findings to all the partners. By the end of
the project all the participating pupils/students will have a
good knowledge on their own country’s culture and also of the
partner countries cultures on particular topics.
In this context research skills, communication skills,
language skills, etc. will be acquainted by the participating
youngsters. The exchange of visits will reinforce and expand
knowledge and skills, while at the same time will contribute
to the development of the European citizenship.
The suggested topics are:
-Traditional music
-Modern music
-Traditional dances
-Traditional recipes (cooking)/ local
-Traditional architecture/ local
- Traditional ship building (boats and small fishing vessels),
etc.
5.5 cooperation
and communication
Please explain how effective cooperation and communication
between participating institutions will be organised.
The communication will be based mainly on the Internet. We
will try to employ the e-twining platform and other chat rooms
for communication in real time.
The partners will exchange also
CDs, DVDs, booklets and copies of all products/results to all
partners, in order to organise an exhibition in each partner
school (LLP- Comenius – board). Pupils will write letters
during their English lessons to the partner pupils.
Coordinating school’s webpage will be used as a focus point
for all partners.
Drawing up a list with all communication basics such as
telephone numbers, e-mail addresses, urgent numbers (like
Mobile numbers in case something is very urgent), times of
school holidays.
Daily e-mail conversation and at least once- a- week
communication via e-mail
The students are free to communicate via chat rooms as often
as they wish.
Regular coordinators’ meetings will be used to evaluate the
development of the project.

What impact and benefits of European cooperation do you expect
Partnership activities to have on persons (pupils and staff) and
on the participating institutions?
The project intends to meet some of the objectives of E.U.
such as:
To promote peace and stability through the knowledge of each
culture
To overcome discord in the continent, through mutual
understanding, recognition and appreciation

Cultural awareness and expression
The project includes exchange of visits from and to partner
states-schools. This contributes to the improvement of
education quality and increase of mobility of pupils and
educational staff in the partner states. The project can be
viewed from the perspective of a united home country, where
people travel from different places to get to know other
people and cultures. The quality of the mobility under these
terms is improved thanks
to the inclusion of educational activities and the exchange of
good practice, innovative pedagogical ideas and methodologies
that enrich the pan- European cultural- educational tradition.
There are inequalities in the use of modern European
languages, where a few of them are functioning as “Lingua
franca”, while some other are perceived as marginal or less
important, in spite of their background history (e.g. Greek).
The project will challenge young people to learning modern
European languages from people having them as mother tongues.
As for the project implementation we will employ Internet
based communication, the pupils will be inspired to update and
improve their communication skills, to use more sophisticated
hardware and software, participating thus in an experiment of
innovative ICT based pedagogies.
To the heart of the project lies the work to be done by the
pupils themselves in terms of literature-bibliography
collection, interview of people, writing reports, interpreting
texts, pictures and short films, employing different
educational approaches in the classroom and outdoors.
To encourage the learning of modern foreign languages:
All the Internet based communication will take place in
English. However, during the visits students will be
encouraged to learn the language of
the hosting school.
Students will participate in courses on cultural identity and
geography; learn to use a foreign language to communicate with
the teacher and fellow students
To support improvements in pedagogical approaches and school
management:
Teachers and school managers will
profit by participating in an innovative project by exchanging
good practice.
Any of the eight key competences set out in the 2006
Recommendation:
Communication in foreign languages – the virtual communication
will take place in English
Digital competence – students and teachers use the digital
learning environment
Learning to learn – students can choose place and time to
learn about cultures in Europe
Social and civic competences – students with dyslexia and

5.9 evaluation
How will you evaluate whether the aims of the partnership have
been met and the expected impact has been achieved?
The
evaluation of the project will take place in three phases for
each school and a total and final one.
The first
part of the evaluation will take place prior to the
inauguration of the project in each participating school. The
objective is to depict students’ ideas, knowledge and
attitudes, towards their own country’s and others’ on cultural
diversity.
The second
phase of the evaluation will take place during the
implementation of the project in order to give continuous
feed-back to the coordinating teachers
The third (final)
evaluation will take place around the end of the school year
and will examine the extent to which
we approached the objectives initially set.
In this respect, a number of tools will be employed, such as
interviews, questionnaires, discussion, reports, press
releases, etc.

involvement
If your partnership focuses mainly on pupil involvement, please
explain to what extent they will be involved in the planning,
implementation and evaluation of project activities.

If your partnership mainly deals with pedagogical or management
issues, please explain how all relevant staff will be actively
involved in planning, implementation and evaluation of project
activities.
The pupils will be involved in the project, right after the
approval of our application. As all the participating
countries are rich in cultural heritage, each school will
focus on a specific aspect of its cultural heritage. E.g., a
school will focus on the tradition connected to the sea,
another on the tradition connected to the music and dance,
etc. The pupils will discuss the way the project should be
implemented according to their perception, placing focus on
different aspects of it, e.g. communication, cultural
–artistic expression, etc. The activities will be planned and
implemented by the pupils themselves, under the supervision
and coordination of the teachers. The usual and everyday
communication between pupils from the partner schools is
facilitated more and more, as schools acquire more
sophisticated hardware and software, and as an increasing rate
of families have Internet access.
As planned the participating pupils will exchange visits in
order to meet project –mates from the partner schools. During
these visits, they will also exchange ideas, practices, etc,
fulfilling the project‘s objectives.
Regular coordinators’ meetings will be used to evaluate the
development of the project
5.11 integration
into learning and/or other ongoing activities
If the project focuses on pupil involvement, please explain how
the project will be integrated into the curriculum / learning
activities of the participating pupils in each of the
participating organisations.

If your partnership mainly deals with pedagogical or management
issues, please explain how the project will be integrated into
the ongoing activities of the participating organisations.
The partners have decided to adopt the overall school
involvement (whole school approach), that means parts of the
project will be integrated in the everyday school work.
Different aspects of the project will be worked out during the
relevant subjects as follows:
-Language (mother tongue, foreign languages)
-Literature in mother or partner language
-History (of places, activities, buildings, traditions, etc.)
-Music (local, national, traditional, modern, contemporary,
etc.)
-Arts (painting, sculpture, cinema, etc.)
-Geography (landscapes, environments, places and human
intervention, exchanges, migration, etc.)
-ICT (communication, exchange of messages, documents, videos,
photos, etc.)
- Physical education (dance)
We are free to use 10% of the didactic time to include
different topics in each school subject, so we will allocate
this time in favour of the project. Working on a holistic
pattern we are going to interconnect the different subjects
involved in the project for a new synthesis in the framework
of the cultural diversity of the European countries,
especially of the partner ones.
At the beginning of the project a special teacher assembly
will take place in each one of the partner schools, in order
to secure the integration of the project activities in the
everyday life of the school, the adoption of a whole school
approach, and the active involvement of teachers and pupils in
the project.
5.12 dissemination
and use of results
How will you disseminate and use the results, experiences and,

On a regular basis, e.g. once a week reports and other data
(videos, photos, etc.) will be exchanged between partner
schools and pupils. Part of this communication in the right
form will be published in the webpage of each school.

As the number of visitors is increasing, more and more pupils
from the participating schools will make use of our findings,
or appreciate their school mates’ work.
§
Part of the working papers, pieces of art, reports in hard
copy, will be “hanged” and be communicated in each
participating school for the whole duration of the project.

In each one of the partner schools students and teachers
create a billboard for to inform the school community about
the project and its evolution.
§
Presentations will take place in partner schools, local
venues, magazines, local newspapers, seminars and conferences

The local communities will have information about the project
through the webpage of each school, through press releases
from time to time and on a regular basis, from the invitation
schools will address for their presentation, from the
publicity given to the exchanged visits, etc.

The wider life long community will benefit from the ongoing
project and from the results in a number of ways, such as
visits to the webpage of each partner, from the publicity that
will be given to the variety of activities of the project
groups in school or outdoors, from press releases to

6.1 work
programme: planned activities, including mobility activities, of

Educational activities
Please summarise in the table below the planned Partnership
activities and mobilities for all institutions in the
Partnership. Please present the activities for both academic
years 2008/09 and 2009/10, in a chronological order. The
eligibility period of activities starts on 1 August 2008 and
ends on 31 July 2010.
Please note that mobility activities can only take place between
organisations receiving funding to participate in the
Partnership (including associated partners), or to events
organised by Lifelong Learning (or predecessor) Programme
projects or networks (e.g. Comenius Network conferences).
Mobility can be undertaken by staff and pupils of the
participating institutions, representatives of associated
partners and - in the case of mobility involving persons with
special needs - accompanying persons such as parents, guardians
or carers. What is counted as "a mobility" is one
trip abroad by one person. Only transnational mobility
(i.e. travel abroad) counts for the calculation of the minimum
mobility numbers.
