Piraeus' Harbour
During the school year 1995-1996 the enviromental team which was made up of the students of C6 class of Ralleio High School took up a research concerning Piraeus Harbour. The whole activity co-ordinated by the English teachers Vavouraki Evangelia and Drouga Ergini resulted in a publication of a book titled: " The port of Piraeus ". The book consists of three parts. The first one is a brief history of the haven covering the 19th and 20th centuries. The second part deals with work of art ( paintings, literature, songs ) inspired by the port, as well as scenes and memories of the harbour in the previous century and the tough job of dockers. The third part has to do with coastal shipping and especially the passenger/cargo vessels, used by the Greek coastal shipowners, which showed up in the early 20th century.
During the school year 1998-1999 the environmental team, which consists of students of B' class of Ralleio High School, was assigned the task to draw up a list of things tickling their interest both positive and negative. These dealt with the areas from St Dionysios to the Municipal Theatre of Piraeus. The students were split into groups of action and study free will. In the first place, they collected data (photos, slides, interviews etc.), which they recorded and then made suggestions with the purpose of improving -the conditions prevailing in the area. The whole activity -entitled "A school in the vicinity of the Harbour"- was projected by the mass media and co-ordinated by E. Papadaki, Biology teacher and P.Pefanis, Physics teacher.    Back
